About the Jewish Information and Referral Service (JIRS)

Every day JIRS talks with people in the Greater Philadelphia Jewish community and beyond (over 3,000 last year alone) to answer questions, refer to agencies, advocate for people having difficulty accessing necessary services, and offer help to those who don't know who else to ask. Staffed by professionals and volunteers, JIRS is available weekdays. And.... no question is too insignificant or difficult.
We Can:

  • Provide you with places you can consult for all your health, financial & social needs
  • Provide you with information about Services for Seniors
  • Help inform you about the right department at Federation and/or Jewish agencies
  • Help newcomers to the area learn more about the community (Shalom Neighbor)
  • Welcome new Jewish babies into the community (Shalom Baby)
  • Give you important dates on the Hebrew Calendar
  • Provide information about Adult Education classes
  • Tell you how to get a scholarship to summer camp or on a travel program to Israel
  • Help you find shops that will fill your "Jewish" needs
  • Give you information about Jewish places in foreign countries
  • Help you find a home for your donated goods ...AND MUCH MORE!
