Center for
Social Responsibility
Hunger relief. The elderly. The impoverished
Federation’s Center for Social Responsibility brings about significant, positive change for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the Greater Philadelphia community. The center works with Federation’s partner agencies to develop, implement and support innovative programs to meet the basic needs of local children, adults, seniors and families.
Center Priorities:
• Funding and enhancing safety-net services for the chronic poor.
• Investing in self-sufficiency programs for low-income members of the Jewish community.
• Providing supportive services to improve the quality of life of seniors in their homes and residential settings and help them age with dignity.
• Reducing the number of households facing hunger through an array of food programs and other community-based initiatives.
• Enhancing social action projects in our community that help the most vulnerable while engaging volunteers and building Jewish identity.
• Increasing community and governmental awareness of and support for Jewish concerns and issues.
Center Impact:
Last year, the center provided more than $5.5 million to organizations and initiatives that the center determined – after an in-depth review process – would be best able to
positively impact the social service needs of the Greater Philadelphia community. Below is just a small portion of the important work that the center makes possible through
its funding:
• Delivering kosher meals to frail elderly.
• Job training for unemployed Jewish adults.
• Emergency grants to help impoverished community members avoid eviction and pay utility bills.
• Transportation services for seniors to critical healthcare appointments and socialization services.
