Center for
Jewish Life and Learning

Heritage. Education. Community.

Federation’s Center for Jewish Life and Learning promotes Jewish identity and greater participation in Jewish life and Jewish education. The center works closely with community partners to facilitate individual and family involvement with synagogues and develop educational and cultural opportunities for Jewish adults, children and families in Greater Philadelphia.

Center Priorities:
• Providing strategic support to and strengthening area synagogues as
gateway institutions through efforts to attract and retain members.
• Investing in and improving supplementary school programs.
• Creating and supporting dynamic, community-wide learning
opportunities for Jewish adults.
• Improving and increasing enrollment in Greater Philadelphia Jewish
day schools.
• Engaging Jewish college students in Jewish life and learning.
• Supporting Jewish identity-building programs for children and teens.

Center Impact:
Last year, the center provided nearly $7.6 million to organizations and initiatives that the center determined – after an in-depth review process – would be best able to involve Jewish community members more deeply in Jewish life and learning. Below is just a small portion of the important work that the center makes possible through its funding:
• Synagogue school, day school and overnight Jewish camping scholarships for families in need.
• Support for special-needs programming in day schools and synagogue schools.
• Community-wide Jewish education series for adults.
• Outreach events to engage college students in Jewish identity-building programs.
