There are two ways you can get involved with the Mitzvah Food Project:
1. Refer a client (a person or family in need). Click here for more information...
2. Volunteer at a pantry site. Click here for more information...
The Mitzvah Food Project was piloted in 1996 to alleviate hunger and malnutrition among at-risk families in the Greater Philadelphia region and provides ongoing food relief to vulnerable households once or twice monthly, with emergency provisions available as needed.
As a reliable source of basic, nutritious staples, the Mitzvah Food Project has enabled clients to use their resources for housing and health care costs, rather than food, helping them to avoid eviction and utility shut-off.
Annual Report
Federation’s Mitzvah Food Project is pleased to introduce exciting new improvements for the 2009 High Holiday Food Drive!
Each synagogue will collect only one type of food item. Each Kehillah will collect a different food, which will expedite distribution to pantry sites and better protect food from damage.
The High Holiday food collection process is going green! Beginning this year, unbagged food donations will be collected in synagogue collection bins. As an environmentally sensitive and cost-saving measure, the Mitzvah Food Project will not provide plastic bags, and participants are asked to place only food items in collection bins. (As usual, bins and drums will be available to reserve/borrow from SHARE if needed.)
